Countries ban domestic travel during Easter holidays to avoid spread of coronavirus

While the entire globe is dealing with the coronavirus pandemic, the Easter holidays are fast approaching. The spring is here but majority portions of the Europe and the U.S. continue to be under lockdown. Travelling has been restricted across the globe as a measure to avoid the spread of coronavirus. A number of flight attendants are also being infected due to which the number of operational flights have also been dramatically reduced. A report has mentioned that about 93 percent of the world’s population are in countries and territories which have imposed movement restrictions.

Moreover, 9 out of every 10 people across the globe are living at places where there are restrictions on arrival or departure of passengers on an international basis. The government is advising people to remain at home. Different countries have their own ways of restrictions. For instance, some have asked to follow the social distancing norm strictly while others have imposed a full lockdown. There are also countries which have closed their borders to the arrivals except for the citizens who have repatriated. There are also places where the state borders have been sealed that restricts domestic travel.

Alejandro Giammattei, the president of Guatemala has gone ahead had has restricted travel on a domestic level as well to avoid the spread of coronavirus in Central America. While the citizens of Guatemala are preparing to visit their relatives during the Easter holidays, the president has taken a step to ban the domestic travel as well. The sale of alcohol has also been banned up to April 12, 2020.

The similar trait has been followed by Greek island mayors and have demanded a complete ban during the Easter holidays so the spread of COVID-19 can be prevented in Greece. The relevant sectors have received letters while appealing the authorities to demand a ban on the ferry services for the non-residents of every island. The coronavirus originated in the Wuhan province in China in December 2019 and started spreading to other countries.
