2012 sparked a big controversy for the clock to strike the time that would bring the end of the world. Why? Because centuries ago, the Mayan civilization from the land of Peru in South America ended their calendar at precisely that time. Though the entire extent of the long-lost civilization remains hidden, there are many towering temples that whisper within their halls and on their steps of devotion and gore. The most famous temple is the one at Machu Pichu, though there are several others as well. When you delve deep into their origins, you will be baffled about how such an ancient people knew more about the cosmos then than we know now.
