Well, wait for your jaw to drop – The cliff here itself dates back to nearly 72 million years! There is sufficient evidence to maintain that Chicxulub meteorite hit the earth 65 million years ago. This space rock was responsible for causing the extinction of the dinosaurs, along with approximately half the earth’s population. The actual point of impact for the meteorite was in Mexico, but the ash cloud that floated over the oceans to New Zealand left its mark on the land. The cliff is actually said to be resistant to nuclear power, thanks to the buried bryozoa chalk.
