The royal residence of Edinburgh Castle holds so much history, it is probably the first place you need to visit if you get to this glorious land. Researchers say that it has been witness to and victim of, 26 sieges making it “the most besieged place in Great Britain and one of the most attacked in the world” since it was erected some 1,100 years ago! Another astonishing fact about this heritage site is that it stands atop an extinct volcano and was eyed by conquerors as early as Ptolemy.
