But during the festive season that started off in the month of October, 2020, the tourism sector has seen some ray of light and more people are now venturing out towards the end of the year. More people now wish to step out and ring in the New Year on a happy note with a leisure holiday after being locked inside their homes for a long time.
During COVID lockdowns, deserted tourists places and empty beaches was a common sight and the coronavirus pandemic was responsible for the situation. But the winter holiday season has brought a hope for the tourism and travel sectors. There has been a 25 percent per month growth in terms of bookings by people who wish to go on a leisure travel. But the difference this time, is that the tourists are looking forward to explore places which are less commercial as well as secluded that will make them feel secured and safe.
People are more conscious about the hygiene and safety measures that are being taken by the host accommodations. Moreover, there has also been a growth of 44 percent in the last minute bookings compared to the previous year. The travelers are also exploring the options of homestays, luxury hotels, cottages and 4-5 star hotels. There are also people who are opting for short getaways instead of a week long getaway. Such destinations are popular as they provide some serenity away from the hustle of the city.
With a promising year end, the year 2021 also seems promising for the travel and tourism sector. More people will be willing to step out and help to bring back tourism on its legs again. The introduction of vaccine across the world is also a promising sign.
